HOLIDAY PARTY DIET SURVIVAL TIPS
• If it is a potluck party, bring a dish that you know is healthy, like a roasted veggie platter, so you know there will be at least one healthy thing for you to eat.
• When cruising the buffet table, use a cocktail plate (even if full size dinner plates are available) and choose small servings of the items you want to sample. Remember, this is not your only opportunity to eat all day, so pace yourself.
• Eat slowly. The longer your plate stays full, the less likely you are to revisit the buffet. It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that you are full. If you eat fast, you will keep eating before you realize that you don’t need any more food (and you will look like a pig).
• Don’t show up starving. Have a healthy snack before you go. Being hungry will cause you to overeat, even when the options are miserable. Consider that mound of cubed processed cheese- would that appeal to you in any other setting? How many people have touched those cubes? Gross.
• Socialize. No one likes to see food in your mouth while you are talking, so have good manners and don’t eat while you talk. Be the life of the party while keeping your diet in check!
• Implement a two drink max. Do you really want to be the butt of the next days’ jokes? Have a glass of water in between the drinks so dilute some of the alcohol (and calories).
• If there is an opportunity to dance, take it. Every little bit of exercise this season will help!
